Fishing and Lead Capture - Part Three of Three

In parts one and two we overviewed fishing for leads, then went into detail on baiting, presenting and setting your hook on new leads for your business.

Of course, the purpose of your lead generation is to sell a product, service, or opportunity. That's your number one priority - to make contacts and turn them into customers.

You've gotta land that fish.

Now that you have set the hook with subscription confirmation and delivered the bait you promised on your lead capture page ...

How do you get him in without snapping the line?

Well, you have to get your emails read - or all the previous effort is wasted.

Consider the subject of each email as a headline. If it's not interesting enough to be opened you will probably lose your fish.

Keep your (head)line tight. Short and sweet, and usually presenting a benefit - a darn good reason to open the email.

If you don't keep the line tight he will throw the hook - and throw your email in the trash.

Some fish fight harder than others. Many potential customers are quite defensive. Why should they trust you? They don't even know you. To earn their trust, and to have the best chance of landing your fish, use high quality line - VALUE.

Give of yourself. Give of your time. Give something of value to earn the respect and trust of your subscriber - and don't allow any slack in your line.

You offered the right bait.
You set the hook with confirmation.
You keep your (head)line tight so they don't throw the hook (in the trash).
You use strong line by providing valuable information.

...and you keep reeling up the slack.

You use your email to guide your customer to the sales page - and ultimately to the sale.

You can't force it or something will break - the line (reads but no clicks), the hook (thrown in the trash) - something will go wrong and you will go hungry.

Guide, offer, help, inform, entice...

Closer and closer he gets until you finally grab the net. ...and the net profit.

Above all, treat your lead with respect. There is a person behind that email address.

Do you prefer a mailbox full of ads? ... or useful information and related links?

Do you prefer an honest review? ... or a hard sales pitch?

When you DO offer a product, service or opportunity ... offer something of value - not junk for easy money. Your reputation won't stand up to it.

Treat your lead, your subscriber, your new friend like a person. Give them a good reason to do business with YOU.

... and stop treating them like fish.

Ok, so maybe fishing and lead capture don't have THAT much in common after all.

Sorry. My bad.

We're small, but our products are already making more than a few ripples. By rethinking product design from the ground-up, we've created an impressive line up of fly-fishing storage products and accessories that look great, and outperform anything else available on the market. We started with a few simple ideas: design and create a tippet dispenser, develop an innovative cutting tool or clipper, and reshape the fly storage category with the creation of a series of soft-sided cases and chest packs. Our simple ideas turned into very complex design obstacles and challenged some of the best industrial designers in the country, yet we've succeeded with our vision and created a line of revolutionary accessory products that will stand the test of time. Fishpond is all about design and function . We are the first to bring a functional tippet dispenser to the market-one that stores, straightens, cuts and dispenses tippet material directly from most commercially manufactured freshwater tippet spools. Look for our saltwater version in the coming months. Tired of plastic and aluminum fly boxes? We've also created an entirely new product category with our molded nylon and soft-sided fly cases. With ease-of-use in mind, brightly colored jacquard webbing on the spine serves as a hand strap to securely hold the case while on the water. This gives our cases their signature style and unparalleled function. To keep us on the cutting edge, we're redefining the accessory segment with revolutionary products like our patented, ergonomically designed Titanium Clippers with optional integrated retractor that make competitive tools based on the traditional nail clipper obsolete. Our research has told us that fly-fishing enthusiasts want to lighten their load. In response to this trend, fishpond has created two new chest/fanny packs that can complement or replace the traditional fishing vest. Each product has our signature zip-down "fly bench" with a replaceable foam fly page that serves as a convenient fly changing station and work area. At fishpond, we're committed to staying on the leading edge of fly-fishing product design, and we're already hard at work on the next generation of new products to enhance our position as an emerging leader with our dealer-partners and customers. Fishpond is connected to the past and it's timeless traditions, but its focus is on making designs for the fly-fishing enthusiast that will endure the future. We're committed to our dealer-partners and consumers at every level, and want to earn your trust and support by offering quality service, delivery and creativity.

Hemingway on Fishing

Hemingway on Fishing
From childhood on, Ernest Hemingway was a passionate fisherman. He fished the lakes and creeks near the family's summer home at Walloon Lake, Michigan, and his first stories and reportages were often about his favorite sport. Here, collected for the first time in one volume, are all of his great writings about the many kinds of fishing he did -- from trout in the rivers of northern Michigan to marlin in the Gulf Stream.

In A Moveable Feast, Hemingway speaks of sitting in a café in Paris and writing about what he knew best -- and when it came time to stop, he "did not want to leave the river." The story was the unforgettable classic, "Big Two-Hearted River," and from its first words we do not want to leave the river either. He also wrote articles for the Toronto Star on fishing in Canada and Europe and, later, articles for Esquire about his growing passion for big-game fishing. His last books, The Old Man and the Sea and Islands in the Stream, celebrate his vast knowledge of the ocean and his affection for its great denizens.

Hemingway on Fishing is an encompassing, diverse, and fascinating collection. From the early Nick Adams stories and the memorable chapters on fishing the Irati River in The Sun Also Rises to such late novels as Islands in the Stream, this collection traces the evolution of a great writer's passion; the range of his interests; the sure use he made of fishing, transforming it into the stuff of great literature.

Anglers and lovers of great writing alike will welcome this important collection.

Fly Fishing on River Allan

The Allan Water is controlled by the Allan Water Angling Improvement Association, you can buy permits by the day from the Dunblane post office or join the waiting list for the association. The waiting list to join is a about a year but this venue is members only on a saturday.

We fished the upper pools on beat 1. The pools are up near braco just before the hotel. We only used Fly Fishing as our method although you can spin for Salmon and Trout

Salmon Fishing

Equipment - Single Handed AirFlow, SLS Fly Rod.

Location

There is no need for wading at this location as the river is not a large river. You can fish from the Far bank with ease. However this water really needs to have a lot of rain before it fishes well. The banks are clean and well maintained and the water quality is excellent

Flies - Stoat Tail and Pot Belly Pig.

We fished for a number of hours, without much luck and decided to change fly to a pot belly pig, within half an hour I had managed to land a 6lb Grilse. It took me over half and hour to land the fish. (We returned the fish safely to the river) I can see now why the Pot Belly Pig is such a popular fly.

Trout Fishing

Equipment - 6/7 9ft 6 Trout Fly Rod with Floating Line

Flies - Dry Fly and Wet Flies (the day we fished just about anything was catching)

The Fishing

We found this river to teaming with lots of small brown trout about 6inch long which must be viewed as an encouraging site, in fact we managed to catch around 20 (all of which were safely returned to the water)

We found We had Great Success with Wet Flies and Small Size 16 Dry Flies. We generally had the dry fly on the top dropper and the wet on the point.

Overall

A nice clean venue, ideal for in-experienced Fly Fishing, Easy Access and Depending on the weather a good chance of a salmon. This is a great place to learn how to fish on a river.

On the things to note about this venue is the fact that they actually stock the river with brown trout to supplement the natural fish stocks. I did notice large amounts of small brown trout about 1 - 2 inches in size, which is a real positive as it means the the natural fish are spawning and this can only result in making the venue and even better trout fishing mark.

Abel Super Series Large Arbor Reels

2008 marks the 13th year Abel has made Large Arbor reels. During those years we have developed the perfect ratio of arbor (hub) size to the overall spool. SAVE LOTS OF DOLLARS ON CATFISHING GEAR!

Over the past 2 years I have saved a lot of money on catfishing
combinations. The KEY is shopping at FLEA markets! Catfishing
rods and reels need to able to handle big catfish when hooked.
They do NOT need to be the newest greatest thing on the market.
Granted almost all the items at the flea market will be used,
however they will get the JOB DONE.

The prices for at the flea market are at least half the price of
a new combination. In my case I got a 10 foot rod and good bait
casting reel for $40. A 12 foot rig cost me only $45. Such a
combination would normally run about $120 bucks. If you have any
item to horse trade then the deal gets even better. Anyone on a
tight budget this is really an idea to think about.

Around Cincinnati there are at least 5 flea markets within 30
miles. I normally go to The Peddler Flea market for it is the
nearest to me.

Sometimes the outside vendors have a number of rods and reels,
then other weeks none. The REEL DOCTOR inside always has some
combinations to handle everything from bluegill up to stripper
and big catfish.

It is just fun to roam around a flea market and marvel at all the
items for sale. Getting some good fishing gear and saving a lot
of money is icing on the cake.

G. Loomis Venture Reel

In the old days, even the finest fly anglers thought of their reels as little more than a line holder. Not to say they didn't appreciate the craftsmanship of a finely machined fly reel, they just felt the skills for fighting fish on a fly rod were with the fisherman, not the workings of a reel. Their main requirement of a reel was simplicity. They would appreciate our new Venture reels. A quality reel at a bewildering price, each Venture reel is a sturdy, cast aluminum vision of beauty and simplicity. Featuring a wide-range adjustable disc drag, quick release spool, and a rich, champagne gold anodized finish, the Venture reels are available in three sizes: #3, #5 and #7. Fly-fishing, A Fun Sport

Fly-fishing, a fun sport

Fly-fishing is an ancient angling method especially effective in catching trout and salmon. This distinct method of angling uses artificial flies to lure or excite fish. Fly-fishing helps anglers catch the fish easier than the traditional way.

There are two basic forms of fly-fishing, dry flies and wet flies.

Dry flies need coating with floatant in order for it to sit in the surface of the water. Dry flies are mostly effective in upstream and moving water. Dry flies help anglers' spot where fish resides like pools and pocket in streams. Thus, it is easier to detect them and catch the fish.

The use of wet flies is beneath the surface of the water. Wet flies are nymphs, lures and true wet flies. It works as effective as dry flies except that in cases where weeds are many and almost touching the surface, wet flies blends with the weeds and thus may not be as effective as the dry flies.

Fly-fishing was developed in the 19th century, dry fly technique is very effective especially for slower and clearer rivers.

This is because weeds in rich rivers tend to grow closer to the surface, thus traditional wet fly fishing is almost ineffective. Dry fly fishing is thus useful by keeping the fly and the line floating on the surface. This makes fish excited and aggressive; the angler can then spot the location of the fish and in turn catches fish easier.

Later developments of fly-fishing made this concept as basis, thus in the latter part of the 19th century, anglers develop love for fly-fishing. This gave birth to fly-fishing, the sport among its aficionados.

Various parts of the United States host fly-fishing sports such as in the waters of Catskill Mountains of New York and the provinces of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, British Columbia, Alberta and California.

Anglers in North America also develop various literatures pertaining to fly-fishing. The sport of fly-fishing and all these literatures gave North America the reputation of being the birthplace of dry fly-fishing, specifically the City of Calgary, Alberta. It is arguably one of the world's best trout rivers, thus it remains to be the epicenter for the Western Fly Fishing in North America.

Various other states in America keeps the growing number of fly-fishers such as Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Arkansas. The growing number of anglers that are drawn to the sport of fly-fishing keeps the popularity at its peak.

Dry or wet fly-fishing, whichever is more effective in the rivers where you fish will help keep the sport exciting. It may not be long that other countries will learn to love the sport and make it a globally loved sport.

How does fly-fishing work?

Fly fishing uses longer and lighter rods; sizes vary from 2m (6 ft) for fresh water and up to 4m (14 ft) for salt water fly-fishing. Weight for fresh water rods are between two to five ounces.

Popular types of casts in fly-fishing follow its variety in situation specifics. Anglers uses common cast when the angler whisks the fly rod forward and back using his forearm and upper arm, the wrist is used to soften the motion.

The rod movement varies from 10 o'clock position to 2 o'clock position without touching the ground. Anglers do this to load the rod tip with energy and to travel the fly line creating distance and control; they call this motion false casting.

False casting needs to be done to excite the fish or make it aggressive enough so that when the fly touches the surface, it will be sure that the area where the fly touches is where most of the fish are located and thus will be easier to spot and catch them.

Whether you are a fly-fishing aficionado for outdoor excitement or having fun with your family, using the proper equipment will help you develop love for the sport. Keep it exciting and enjoy fishing at its finest in most popular fly-fishing locations in the country. There are many locations, thus you will not have a problem in spotting nice locations for you and your family for this wonderful outdoor adventure.

EZ Indicators Twist on Rubber Core Strike Indicator

The Slotted EZ Twist on Rubber Core Strike Indicator is one of the most versatile indicators available. It allows you to attach or change sizes without needing to cut your leader. The rubber tubing in these indicators is softer than other brands and really grabs a hold of the leader. Whether you are fishing a small fly shallow or drifting a large weighted Steelhead nymph there is a size and color for every condition. To attach place the leader in the slot and twist the rubber tubing. This will wrap the rubber around the leader holding it in place. If you slide the leader behind the tubing first it will hold it more securely. Try twisting only one end to know which end to untwist for easy adjusting. SHAPES: CYLANDER Sizes MEDIUM-5/16"(Dia), LARGE-3/8"(Dia). TEARDROP Sizes MEDIUM-1/2"(Dia), LARGE-5/8"(Dia), XL-3/4"(Dia). COLORS: CHARTREUSE, ORANGE, RED and WHITE

Fly fishing tips

Fly-fishing is fun for just about anyone that likes to fish. They will have a great time being in the open outdoors and near the water as well as the fun of fishing. It is the best challenge that any fisherman could ask for.

There are many tips for fly-fishing and they are easy to know and remember when you need them. The most important thing to remember is the way that you cast your reel. You need to practice as much as possible. You need a good throw that will get your line out on the water so that you can catch the best possible fish.

Anyone can run into some unexpected problems. Most of the problem with fly-fishing is the way that you cast. It is all in the way that you cast with your wrist. You need to bend your wrist and get the right motion that is necessary in order to cast that reel at the very best position.

You should never let the cast hit the water behind you when you are reeling out. This is a very common mistake that a lot of fisher man experience. Keep your thumb pointed straight when you cast and try to keep your shoulders relaxed while you bring your arm back. Keep your body relaxed and not tense. This is the most important step in casting out.

When you are baiting your line, you may want to use two or more flies on it. This will get you better results when you are trying to catch a fish. You can use whatever gets you the best results the quickest.

Wearing the right clothes is also a good idea. If it is hot outside, you should make sure that you are dressed in the right outfits. You want to wear light materials that will keep you cool. If the sun is shinning, you need to try and not create a shadow on the water. This will make the fish suspicious and they may not bite as often. You need to do whatever possible to keep the fish unexpected of what is going on.

When you do the above-mentioned things, you will have better luck and more fun fly-fishing. There is no need to get over anxious about fishing. It is all about fun and enjoyment of the sport and being near the water. Anyone can have fun at this sport. It does not matter what age you are or how good at it you are. You will get hours of relaxation and pleasure when you join the fly fishing world.

Ice Fishing Can be a very exciting experience

One of the most popular recreational forms of fishing in Scandinavia, Russia and Germany is Ice Fishing, a sport also practiced in Canada and the United States, not only during winter, but also all year round in Alaska. However the most popular place to enjoy this activity is in the Great Lakes. Considered originally from Scandinavia, it was brought to America by Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish settlers arriving to Minnesota, a state where people from Nordic families is totally engaged in this sport. Ice fishing was exported to Canada from Minnesota and from here, it also arrived in Alaska.

Minnesotans found ice fishing an entertaining option, keeping in mind that the Great Lakes are often totally frozen, with the only exception being Lake Erie. When the bays of the Great Lakes freeze, yellow perch and northern pike are the most common catches waiting for enthusiasts of this sport. Ice fishing is practiced catching fish with lines and spears or hooks by opening a hole in the frozen lake to fish through. Depending on personal preferences, fishermen can sit in a heated cabin on the ice or on a stool placed on the open expanse of the frozen lake. Cabins are more popular indeed, because most of them have bunks and diverse amenities.

From all the forms of fishing, ice fishing is perhaps the activity requiring less effort and skill, just patience, good luck and the inner conviction of enjoy doing nothing else that sitting on ice, if not physical, at least exposed to low temperatures. For some people, this condition may appear unappealing but in the northern states, ice fishing is considered a serious entertaining activity with competitions and contests offering good prizes to people with the largest fish catches within a limited period of time.

One of the contests attracting more people every year is held at the Houghton Lake in Michigan. The "Tip-Up Town, USA", an annual festival celebrated the last 56 years ago during the second third of winter, and enhanced with other snow related activities such as strolling, snowmobiling, snow-sculpting and fireworks, in conjunction with Ice fishing.

While in the United States, Ice fishing contests have a prevalent carnival like atmosphere, full of camaraderie, in Finland, ice fishing contests have been defaced after repeated scandals involving both organizers and contestants, who have been caught cheating, making people belief this is not a sport, but just a pastime. However, in the United States there is an association supporting ice fishing activities, the American Ice Fishing Association (AIFA), which says that ice fishing contributes to managing the fish species population, and the economic growth of the community, bringing calming and relaxing effects of well being to all the participants.

Because ice fishing can be something more than a one-day experience, there are shelters conveniently located for longer fishing expeditions. Some others are mounted on-demand using simple structures, although the larger heated structures are basic for the success of fishing trips lasting several days.

There is a website that describes boat fishing, ice fishing, and has info on numerous freshwater fish, baits, and lures, plus other great freshwater fishing tips. The website is called: Fishing Stringer, and may be found at this address:

Fishing for Chickens: Short Stories About Rural Youth

Fishing for Chickens: Short Stories About Rural Youth
Sixteen poignant short stories portray the special experience of growing up in rural America. In this unique collection, sixteen writers, both established and new, take us to the backwoods, farmlands, mountains, and coastal regions of the US—and into the lives of young people who are growing up there. Neither sentimental nor nostalgic, their richly plotted and poignant stories dispel the myth of the country idyll to reveal the tough realities of a rural childhood, as well as its rewards. In Rebecca Rule's "Walking the Trapline," a routine trek with her father and brother into the frigid New England woods becomes a test of survival for a young girl. "Sugar Among the Chickens" by Lewis Nordan, a comic tale, features a bored farm boy in Mississippi intent on catching a big rooster with a baited fishing line. When a flock of geese escapes the hunters' guns in North Carolinian writer Tony Earley's "Aliceville," a boy's disappointment is replaced by wonder as he realizes that their breathtaking passage overhead "made our world less small." The authors included are Pinckney Benedict, Nancy Brown, Nora Dauenhauer, Tony Earley, Eric Gansworth, Jim Heynen, Lewis Nordan, Tomás Rivera, Rebecca Rule, Wallace Stegner, Kathleen Tyau, Alma Villanueva, Jon Volkmer, Alice Walker, Vicky Wicks, and Hisaye Yamamoto. Whether rural native or lifelong urban dweller, every reader will come away from this collection with a deeper appreciation of the influence of place upon individual growth and of the special qualities of a country upbringing.

Using Photos and Images on a Fishing Guide Site

Using photos and images on your fishing guide site is more of an art than a science. We use pictures
to either give information or to enhance the information we provide in text. Below we will address five
different ways to use photos and images on your fishing site affectively.

Brand your logo. Your business is just like Nike and McDonalds. If you see the swoosh or the golden arches
you know who it is. A nice logo will give your visitor more of a feeling of a professional service. It can
be fancy or plain but should do 2 things; be easily read and the message should be very clear. I typically
recommend you incorporate your primary lake or town into your logo (i.e. JR Guide Service - Lake Fork or
Jr Guide Service - Orlando Florida). That provides a good amount of information on your logo that customers can see at a glance. When
you use your logo to make banners for fishing directory sites, they should be consistent and professional.

I get tired of seeing a picture of a guy holding up a fish. Only because it is done so often on every site. I can see that on a lot
of other sites... so why does that help me select you as my fishing guide? I understand you want to convince your potential clients you
catch big fish, so how about you consider some other methods. Do you want to see a guy standing in the inn zone and call that the picture
of the touchdown? No. You would want to see a picture of him running or passing for it. So show more of the action. One method I personally
like to see is a 3 picture sales pitch. Three pictures next to each other with (1) picture of clients and you standing around drinking coke
and smiling and laughing, then (2) picture of a fish on, bent pole, maybe fish splash then (3) yes, then you can show your picture of the
guy holding up his fish. This tells me a story of having fun, heartpounding action and the big catch I could have. Also put the fishermans'
name under the photo. This makes it more fun for them to see it on your website and they will come back. Be creative and fun. Maybe have
a row of pictures of the same guy and the fish he caught. Row and row of that tells the viewer that not only do you catch fish but more than
just one.

Since I need to keep this short let me just mention some of the don'ts. Don't put in fuzzy pictures or bad pictures. Don't put in a bikini
holding up a fish unless you think that would be ok with your clients (you may lose some family business). Don't use a bad picture of yourself;
make sure you look fun and professional in all your pictures and put a caption under it stating it is you. Don't randomly just put pictures
on your site, make sure they relate to the text surrounding it. Lastly, don't show pictures of you fishing. They are hiring someone to help
them fish not to watch you.

Other images on your site need to be organized and attractive. Typically these are banners for sponsors and other sites. Try to create
some type of presentation, rows, columns, grouped together, centered or something. Too many times I see them just thrown on the page which
makes it look unprofessional and sort of sloppy. Not words you want your guide service described as. Many of the great sites reserve banners
on their main page for fishing directories and sponsors and put the rest on their links page. You really need a links page to hold all the

Those are a few of the basics of using photos and images on your Fishing Guide site. It isn't rocket science, but it is worth putting a little
work into just like the rest of your site. Don't just stick them in there as easy as you can. Make photos and images work for your business and
your site. A picture or image can be worth a thousand words... so what are your site photos saying?
