WoW Fishing Guide

In World of Warcraft Fishing is a secondary gathering profession that you can have in addition to your two primary professions. Fishing enables you to sharpen your character?s hunting skills and gives you the ability to fish out aquatic life and other things from the various waters of the World of Warcraft realm. Some of the items can be consumed raw while others can be cooked to enhance their effects. Hunters can use these foods to feed their pets. It is also possible to find reagents useful for alchemy as well as treasure chests by simply fishing.

In order to begin fishing your character will need to be at least level five and you will need to find a fishing trainer. There is a corresponding beginner fish-pond for each of the races complete with a fishing trainer conveniently located next to the water where you will be fishing. There are other trainers located in various other places but the following spots are where you must begin fishing. Humans begin fishing around Goldshire. Beginner Taurens fish the lake north of Bloodhoof Village. Dwarves and Gnomes start out by fishing North of Brownall Village in Western Dun Morogh. The Orcs? and Trolls? beginner fishing spot is the sea that is south of Sen?jin Village. Undead start their fishing at the lake that is east of Brill. Night Elves have three different beginner fish ponds to choose from: the waters surrounding and within Darnassus, the lake that is located south of Dolenaar, and the sea close to the boat dock in Rut?Theran Village.

If you are an experienced WoW player whose character is not just starting out and you have just decided to begin your fishing career, then you can fish wherever you like. You can even fish the beginner zones of the opposing faction if annoying others is your thing. You may also want to evolve your fishing ability along with your character by spacing the 20 hours out across many different levels. One strategy that has been suggested is max out your fishing at 150 for level 10 so that you can be a powerful fighter using only your fishing pole for a weapon.

Fishing is an extremely easy profession to learn. You only need the patience to fish for 48 hours time to master this skill. You may be wondering what the point in mastering this profession could possibly be. Once you have your skill level above 400 you can fish the waters of Azshara for the Essence of Water. You can earn 5-8g each for this item. If you have the patience, mastering fishing can lead to huge payoffs in the long run.

Fly Fishing for Salmon

The world of the fly fisherman is a varied one. Salmon, trout, grayling and char inhabit the most beautiful waters of the world. Rivers and lakes that reflect forest trees, snowy topped mountains, and sometimes blue skies. The fish that live in crystal clear waters demand the very highest of angling skills. You will not hook that king of fish unless your presentation is virtually perfect. Even when not fishing, the angler can be tying flies for the next season, sitting by the winter?s fireside, lost in dreams of the next season?s catch.

Salmon ? The fish that have hunted in the sea, some for just one winter, some for as long as five years, return to the rivers where they were born. Some salmon, including the sockeye, die after spawning. These fish make their ascent to the spawning grounds once only. Others, including the Atlantic salmon, do not necessarily die at the spawning grounds but may live to migrate three or four times in their lives.

For many years mankind has marveled at how, after journeying far across the ocean, a salmon can return to the river in which it was hatched. Does this remarkable power of orientation have something to do with magnetic fields, the sense of smell, an instinct, or something else as yet a mystery?

In the Yukon River of Alaska and Canada, king salmon that were tagged and tracked travelled 3,200km (2,000 miles) in 60 days. A leap performed by Altlantic Salmon at Orrin Falls, Scotland, measured 4m (12ft).

From entering the rivers, salmon cease to feed and live on the fat built up when feasting in the ocean. Others benefit from this stored energy - bears, eagles, mink, otters, martens, wolves, and many more hunters await the salmon?s arrival with all the enthusiasm of human anglers.

One of the many wonderful things about salmon is the different number of ways in which you can catch them, despite the fact that they are supposed not to eat anything once they have left the sea!

However to many an angler there is little to beat the excitement of seeing a salmon turning in the water as it takes a fly fished in the surface layers and the quick tightening of lightweight line is an electrifying sensation.

So let us agree that salmon fishing with the fly represents the art in its purest form, even if we never lose sight of the other strategies for catching this magnificent fish.

Fishing In Alaska Waters: A Dream Fishing Expedition For Anglers In The US!

Can one figure out any single angler obsessed with lures and fishing bait who doesn?t dream of fishing in Alaska some day? And what with stories about pulling out 400 pound halibut and 80 pound king salmon from the rich Alaska waters, most anglers are almost sure they have a better than average chance to catch what they are after?trout, salmon, bass and more, with their fishing bait (s). Alaska fishing expeditions are famous for salmon, halibut and rainbow trout. A dream destination for a beginner as well as an average angler, Alaska fishing sports have caught the fancy of many over the years with its fly fishing, salmon fishing, excellent fishing guides, equipment, boats, gear and vacation trip ideas for fishing in Alaska. What more, the state of Alaska offers a variety of fishing environments that include lakes, ponds, streams and rivers. These AK fishing waters are home to some giant-size halibuts and king salmons over 50 pounds running strong along the Alaska coasts which can make for an incredible fishing experience for any angler. And the most fascinating part of fishing in the Alaska waters is that one can fish amid some of the most incredible scenery on the whole of the continent.

However, it is necessary before you venture out with your fishing bait and your camping equipment that you do your homework. For each major region of the state of Alaska has optimum times when each type of fish is most abundant or available. Moreover, each region having different timing cycles than the others, an angler should specifically be aware of the time when it will provide him the best opportunity to catch the fish. For example, if you are out for some trout fishing in Alaska waters, you must know that pure cold water is the key to survival for the trouts. Rainbow trout, a favorite among a vast majority of trout fishing anglers, appeals to fly fishermen as it can usually be tempted to take properly presented flies as well as other fishing bait (s) and lures. In the Alaska waters, the rainbow trouts tend to remain in streams until reaching 6" to 9" in length. Afterwards, they travel to lakes or oceans where they bulk up and return to the streams or rivers to spawn. Again, if you are out to catch some brook trouts in Alaska waters, winter would be ideal as these trouts are found in clear cold waters which seldom exceed 68 degrees.

The Kenai River of the state of Alaska holding the World Record king salmon of 97.4 lbs with many fish in the 40 to 70 lb range, including red and silver salmon as well as trophy-sized trout, it is a dream fishing experience of a lifetime for an angler. If the lure of king salmon fishing for you is too hard to resist, be specific about locations that offer tidal waters. As a matter-of-fact, the extreme tides and ocean currents that you will find in Alaska's Waterfall Resort create ideal habitats for bait fish (fishes that are lured by the standard fishing bait [s]). This, in turn, will attract returning salmon and bottom fish in staggering numbers. While the Salmon is found running in flood coastal waters and the larger rivers, the Halibut species can be caught in most coastal areas in the AK waters, along with other ocean fish like pike, grayling, Dolly Varden, burbot, whitefish and others. In the summer months, there is plenty in the AK waters to keep an angler with fishing bait busy, as a huge variety of Salmon Dollies and trout keep playing in the rivers. The halibut and salmon offshore are in abundance in the summer months in Lower Cook Inlet, an extremely popular fishing destination for Alaskans and visitors alike.

However, if you are a beginner angler and not an out-and-out expert in fishing bait and lures, it is always advisable that you hire a professional guide for the ultimate fishing experience. Knowing the intricate world of fishery inside out, they will end up teaching you the best techniques for catching fish at various times of the year. In Alaska, you will find plenty of fishing fever charters specializing in day fishing as well as fishing guides specializing in specific Alaska lakes or in one or more species of fish. Before you set out as an angler in the AK waters, set your goals and hire a fishing guide to enhance your Alaska fishing expedition.

Crappie Fishing Techniques

One of the most popular fish to go out and catch, or should I say attempt to catch, is the crappie. People from all over the country fish for these little beauties, mostly because they provide such great table fare. Of all the fish swimming is freshwater, crappie are in the running for the best tasting. Their light flaky meat is much like the flesh of a walleye, only a bit "sweeter". There are many techniques that can be used to catch crappie, but two of the most popular have to be live minnows and/or small jigs. I'll give a brief synopsis of both in this article to give you an overview.

Live Minnows - The most popular way to catch Crappie is probably through the use of live minnows. Most anglers use a size 4 or 6 hook, hook it through the minnows back, place this live minnow under a bobber and fish for Crappie. Although this technique works, there are better ways to present you live minnow to the fish. The easiest way is through the use of gang hooks. Gang hooks are simply 2 small hooks tied in tandem. So, in the case of Crappie, the angler should first tie a small barrel swivel onto their line. Then tie a #8 or #10 set of gang hooks onto the other end of the barrel swivel. Now, take a live minnow and hook it through the lips of the top hook (I always leave the second hook "floating free", but hooking the second hook into the minnows' back works as well). Now place your bobber onto you line and your good to go. Hooking the minnow through the lips does little or no damage, and the minnow lives for a very long time, which is good because live minnows can be a bit pricey. The longer you can keep your bait "alive", the better. The gang hook technique is very effective for catching crappie.

Small Jigs - Small jigs are also a very popular technique for catching Crappie. The twister tail that you place on the jig is the important part. There are no hard and fast rules as far as color is concerned, so experimentation is the key. One thing that I have found is that Berkley's "Power" version of twister tails work quite well. In some cases these "power tails" will even out fish live minnows. Again, as far as what color to use, experimentation is the key. Another very effective technique when it comes to jigging for Crappie is to tip your jig with a live minnow. Simply hook a minnow through the lips onto the hook of your jig, and your jip is "tipped".

The two techniques mentioned in this article are the most popular and most effective way to catch Crappie. Are there other ways to catch these delectable fish? Of course, but these two are the most effective. I recently saw a "crappie rig" in the local tackle shop, and thought I should mention it. It was a contraption with like 3 large hooks coming off of it, with a sort of wire that kept the three hooks from getting tangled. It looks somewhat like a "tree", for lack of a better way to describe it. I was flabbergasted by this thing, and quite frankly a bit scared. Please, I beg of you, never buy or use a contraption such the kind I'm attempting to describe. Remember what Steven Wright said of fishermen, "There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot." Using rigs like the "crappie rig" make us look like idiots!

How to catch striped bass

If you were hesitating to read this article thinking it would be a waste of your time, you must now be thinking how wrong you were in your thoughts.

The striped bass is sought out at various lakes, rivers, etc, and all through Lake Ouachita. The striped bass is also known as lineside and rockfish. Stripers have silver sides, which are darker than the stripes on white bass. Stripers are long with patches around the tongue and teeth. The hybrids are joining with white perch in various lakes. The Best Striped Bass Fishing In Maine

There are few fish that Maine is renowned for, though undoubtedly one of the best candidates is the striped bass, a beautiful, strong fish that is becoming more common throughout Maine?s waterways both on and off shore. Easily distinguished by a set of continuous dark stripes, the striped bass is one of Maine?s premier game fish. Striped bass, or stripers as they are often known, are well known for their speed, agility and fighting ability that has caused many an angler problems. Due to this, stripers have gained trophy fish status, particularly those few that near five feet in length and tip the scales at around the 60 pound mark ? these are by no means small fish.

Striped bass have a hugely dedicated following of anglers, each of which has their own preferred method of fishing striped bass as well as favorite spots, times, baits and lures. The best time to fish for striped bass and the best location will vary depending on who you ask, though there are a few general guidelines that will help you get the best out of striper fishing in Maine.

June and July are widely reported as being the best months to catch striped bass, though fishing remains reasonable right up until late September-early October time. Much of this is to do with the striped bass sensitivity to temperature, with waters around 63 degrees Fahrenheit thought to be the optimum a for striper fishing. Outside of this window there is very little striper action. There are also many myths as to the best time of day to catch stripers, though as with many other species, dawn and dusk are firm favorites with experienced anglers.

They say that location is everything, and fishing for stripers is no exception. Fortunately, Maine has a whole host of superb striped bass spots which are suitable for everyone from the young angler looking for fast, frequent action right up to the seasoned veteran looking for that trophy striper. Penobscot River is a particularly well documented striped bass hotspot, as is Parsons Beach, Scarborough River Jetty and the Augusta Boat Landing. Other stretched of Scarborough River are known to host a high striped bass population, as are regions of the Kennebec and Sheepscot watersheds.

The best place to fish will depend largely on what you are looking for. If it is just a good day out fishing with the family, then any one of Maine?s many rivers and offshore spots that support stripers will be more than adequate. However, if you are instead looking for bigger fish or perhaps even a trophy catch, one of Maine?s striper hotspots, such as those listed above, are for you.

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

Salmon Fishing in the Yemen
British businessman and dedicated angler Paul Torday has found a way to combine a novel about fishing and all that it means with a satire involving politics, bureaucrats, the Middle East, the war in Iraq, and a sheikh who is really a mystic. Torday makes it all work in a most convincing way using memos, interviews, e-mails, and letters in clever juxtaposition.

Dr. Alfred Jones is a fisheries scientist in Great Britain who is called upon to find a way to introduce salmon into the desert in Yemen. The Yemeni sheikh will spare no expense to see this happen. He says:

It would be a miracle of God if it happened. I know it... If God wills it, the summer rains will fill the wadis... and the salmon will run the river. And then my countrymen... all classes and manner of men--will stand side by side and fish for the salmon. And their natures, too, will be changed. They will feel the enchantment of this silver fish... and then when talk turns to what this tribe said or that tribe did... then someone will say, "Let us arise, and go fishing."

Such is the sheikh's vision. He tells Alfred: "Without faith, there is no hope. Without faith, there is no love." Alfred has no religious faith and has been mired in a loveless marriage for twenty years, so these words seem fantastic to him.

Alfred and Sheikh Muhammad connect immediately through their mutual love of fishing, despite Alfred's misgivings about the viability of the project. The Prime Minister's flack man tells Alfred that he must persevere and succeed because Great Britain needs some positive connection to the Middle East, something other than a failing, flailing war. These kinds of political alliances are always shaky at best, and when things start to go sideways, allies have a way of disappearing. Alfred soldiers on, with the help of the lovely Harriet, Sheikh Muhammad's land agent, and the project is readied for opening day, when the Sheikh and the Prime Minister will have a 20-minute photo op.

All of the faith and good will in the world cannot overcome the forces ranged against them, bringing tragedy to everyone involved. Despite all, Alfred's interior life is changed immeasurably. He says in the end: "I believe in it, because it is impossible." --Valerie Ryan

Keeping the right temperature for a salt fish tank or any tank takes some practice. All fish tanks require a water heater to keep the right temperature for the fish. Water heaters have a thermostat attached so you can keep an eye on the temperature changes. There are even different styles depending on what you prefer. Some heaters are designed to hang from the back of the tank, so they’re out of the way. Placement is Important The temperature for a salt fish tank can change with the atmosph

Fishing For Trout

You will mainly find trout in rivers rather than lakes but that is not to say you will not find them in lakes at all, its just that given a choice they would prefer the flowing water of a river. The main types of trout found are brown, cutthroat, brook and my favourite the rainbow.

Catching a small trout is not that hard, it?s catching the big ones where the challenge comes in. Some people prefer fly fishing as a way of catching these fish, others say using a float is best but in the end it?s what?s best for you. Spinners are also known to work for some so just see what works for you. Some of the flies that are on the market do not seem to resemble any fly or insect at all. This is because to a fish it is not the imitation of a fly that matters it is more just a case of food recognition.

Fishing line that is used also counts as the heavier the line the easier it is for the fish to see the line and put the fish off.
Feeding habits also differ from fish to fish as well as the different water temperatures and time of day. There are many different things to take into account when fishing for trout as to whether you have a good day or a bad day. Most people have favourite bait for catching trout and that?s fine but if it?s not working for you do not be afraid to try something a little different. Fish are no different than other things and if you keep feeding on the same thing something a little different might just swing it for you. Be sure to take a variety of bait with you so if one is not working for you, you can try something else. Here are a few ideas to help you in your choice.
Earthworms, spinners, insects, salmon eggs, minnows, crayfish are just a few of the different things I have tried.

These fish are very unpredictable and spending a little time practising will make catching these fish a lot easier when faced with what equipment and bait to use on a stretch of water. I hope this information will enable you to go out and be able to have a good days fishing what ever the type of trout you are after and above all enjoy yourself in the process.

Golf: Hooks Are Fine In Fishing But Not So Good In Golf

For the majority of golfers (those that play right handed) a hook is simply a shot that veers off to the left of its intended target. In some cases the shot will start out to the right of its intended line and then veer off to the left during flight while, in other cases, it will start left and then move further out to the left as it travels through the air. In either case the result is a shot that ends up often way left of where you intended it to be.

The "hook" shot is very common and is the result of a bad grip, a poor stance or an incorrect swing. In many cases it is a combination of all three. Each of these can result in the club face meeting the ball in a "closed" rather than an "open" position putting a counter-clockwise spin on the ball and causing it to turn to the left in flight.

A bad grip in this case usually means that your right hand and forearm are allowed to rotate too much during your swing, thus closing the club face.

To check your grip start by ensuring that the "Vs" in each hand are pointing to your right shoulder as you address the ball. If they are pointing to the right of your shoulder then your grip is too strong and needs to be relaxed a little.

The back of your left hand and the palm of your right hand should both be facing your target and you should only be able to see two knuckles of your left hand. If you can see three knuckles then again your grip is too strong and needs to be relaxed. Be careful here though not to relax your left hand too much as your left hand will steady the right and prevent it from turning during your swing and again closing the club face.

Remember that you should hold the club just tightly enough to control it but no more and that most of your grip should come from the palms of your hands, rather than from your fingers.

Turning to your stance, you need to remember that your aim is to return the club to meet the ball in just the position you set up when you are taking up your stance and addressing the ball in preparation for your shot.

To achieve this, start with the club in the position you want it to be in when you hit the ball and ensure that you are standing comfortably with your shoulders, hips and knees all parallel to the line to your target. At this point the club face will be open as long as the scoring lines on the club face are at right angles to your body and the line to your target.

The final step in avoiding a hook shot is to ensure that your swing brings the clubface down to contact the ball squarely in just the position you selected during your address.

To achieve this you need to keep the club moving throughout your swing in just one plane which is parallel to the line to your target. One way to do this is to practice slowly by imagining that you have a large circular table (about eight feet in diameter) standing on its edge right in front of your face with the top of the table parallel with the line to your target. Then, as you swing, imagine the club head following the rim of the table all the way up and back down again.

One other important point. On the downswing keep your legs relaxed and make sure that the swing is coming from your body and not your legs. You should also feel your weight shifting to your left side during the downswing.

Well, there you have it. Don't grip the club to tightly, take up a square and relaxed stance and swing the club is just one plane and you will avoid those all too common, and very annoying, hook shots.

Ice Fishing Anyone?

Careful planning and preparation is all it takes to make ice fishing the greatest time of your life or the worst. Easy? Take a look at the following tips and see how prepared you are to catch those fish!

Buy early

Make a list of the supplies you used last season and replenish them early. Make sure you get all those Glo-Buster Bluelights or Lindy Tazers. All you need to remember is four words: wise up, stock up.

Check the hole on the ice floor

Simply put, make sure the hole is clean. Chips or chunks of ice could cause entanglements in one's fishing line and could make you catch fish or literally break your chances of getting any, as these could sever the line therefore losing your chance of getting that trophy of a lifetime bluegill. Remember to keep the hole clear of any barrier.

Fish more, get the big four

The bait you simply cannot go on without: wax worms, minnows, assorted PowerBait, maggots. It is best to keep these bait separated and as much as possible alive using coolers such as a small Coleman.

Clean `em all up

Inspect and clean the rods and fishing reels you are going to use. Q-tips are best for taking out the nicks in every nook and cranny of your ice rod. Non-freezing oil for lubing fishing reels is advisable.

Heat up

Do not forget to bring those heaters and pounds and pounds of propane cylinders. One cannot fish comfortably if he or she is as cold as the fish under the ice. Ice fishing should be fun and feel comfy too.

House up

The ice is harsh and cold but it doesn't mean you have to feel that too. Ice tents should be cleaned out as well by putting over a light coat of lubricant at the joints. If there is any wear or tear, it is best to contact the manufacturer in order for them to send out the appropriate repair kit, as deemed necessary.

Gear Up

Better be safe than sorry, make sure you get a set of lifeguard spikes as well as a safety rope. Also, to feel less of the cold and at the same time be cool, pick up a fishing coat from the Carhartt Extremes Arctic Jacket. Avoid frost bits on your toes and feet, the best shoes are the Irish Setters Versa Trax to keep you warm all over.

Fly Fishing Rods

In fly fishing, just like in any form of fishing, the rod that the fisher uses is vitally important. The rods that are used are significantly different from those used in live bait fishing. Fly fishing rods are long and light and combined with heavy lines that provide the casting weight.

Fly fishing rods have quite a noticeable length, between 2m (6 feet) and 4m (14 feet). The material from which they are built varies. Years ago they were made out of a certain type of bamboo, but now they are mostly made of graphite and fiberglass, and experiments are conducted with other materials such as boron, all to create the best equipment possible.

There are a lot of factors to be taken into consideration when choosing a fly fishing rod. Saltwater rods are shorter than those used in freshwater fly fishing. The shorter length enables the fisher to combat the wind and the power of the stream more efficiently. They are also lighter, easing the load on the user. People intending to fish in saltwater should look for ring types supplied with the saltwater rod. At least one should be included with the rod.

It is necessary and must be emphasized that there is no one fly fishing rod that is better than the others. There are different circumstances in which different rods should be used. This, combined with the fisher?s own casting style and strength, creates practically endless ?preferred? rod types. Heavier rods won?t break easily but will tire the fisher faster than lighter, more fragile fly fishing rods. It all depends on the style and strength of the fisher.

It is a good idea for people to experiment with several different types of fly fishing rods to decide what fits their style and ability best. Some people may have a difficult time using the same types of rods that other fly fishers swear by.

Making Carp Fishing Bait - From Commercial Carp Feeds Secrets

Why not save yourself thousands of hours of research trying to design yourself a nutritional carp fishing bait, when scientists have done it all for you?

Take a look at a typical ?contents analysis? of the optimum pelleted carp diet.

Designed by the world?s leading fish nutrition scientists and aqua cultural experts, the following has been derived from various sources to produce a typical analysis for use in designing your own nutritionally attractive carp baits.

The average proportions for optimum carp growth and health, in dry formula feeds, seem to be approximately:

Protein 30 to 55 %, Carbohydrate 65 %, (Fat 2.5 to 5 %), (dietary fiber 2.5 to 5 % +)

Plus added vitamins within supplements: A, B1, B6, B12, C, D, thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Pantothenic acid, Folate, mineral and trace elements, including: phosphorus 7 % (optimum), Calcium, sodium chloride 0.3%, traces: zinc, magnesium etc.

Special emphasis is given in carp aquaculture, growth production and protein optimization, to studies on nutritional requirements for Cyprinus Carpio L. (Common carp.) Priority has especially been on the study of carp feed amino acid requirement and protein ? energy relationships. Energy obtained, and carp bodyweight gains measured over time using specially designed feeds

To determine the optimum ratio of carbohydrate and protein nutrients for maximum starch accretion by carp from feed sources: (This is the point at which optimum energy from food is gained from starch sources, while maximum biological benefits are gained from the protein in food sources using carp body weight gain as an indication of best results; effectively ?sparing protein? from being used by carp for energy instead of body growth and repair.)

Utilization of various forms of carbohydrate sources are used as feed for carp under study. These include raw and cooked starch, under different standard temperature regimes. The ?protein sparing effect? of dietary carbohydrates for carp can then be determined.

These optimum resulting formulas for the highest digestible energy of carp feed utilization were observed: (In K/Cal/g)

Prawn Head meal 15 % to 30 %.

Ground Nut oil Cake 51 % to 61 %.

Sesame Seed oil Cake 50 % to 60 %.

Rice Bran 11 %.

Sodium Chloride 0.3 %.

Dicalcium Phosphate 0.1 %.

Trace Minerals 0.1 %.

Vitamin Mixture 0.1 %.

Supplemental Amino Acids (Including Proline, Lysine and Sulphurous Amino Acids.)

Crude Protein Content 30 %.

Producing the Highest digestible energy K/Cal/g : 2.87 %.

(In Carp Brood Stock.)

For your bait - making purposes, this translates into a useful ratio guide e.g. :

Protein 25 % to 55 %, Carbohydrate 45 % to 65 %, Plus Fat 2.5 to 5 % (In your base mix.)

It may be useful to notice that in commercial production, carp are fed fat at a rate of 0.5 % to 3 % of bodyweight, daily to maintain optimum energy levels and ratios, among other reasons.

Fats: Commercial ?dry carp feeds? are often very low in fat, even 0.5 % to 3 %.

I guess this can give more control when mixing dry feeds for different temperatures, seasons and stages of carp production.

Fat provides over double the energy requirement in the tissues, that carbohydrate or protein normally provide!

I have concluded that this level is somewhere around the optimum basic profile of a ?Nutritional Value Bait?.

There is further information in the book ?Nutrition and Feeding of Fish? By Tom Lovell. (From Amazon or (Used) Ebay.) It is an expensive book!

Tracking down this information is a hobby in itself!

Borrowing from my own horticultural / agricultural research into applying land - animal feeds principles to carp baits:

Cost factors are forcing many animal farmers towards maximizing their feed ? to - meat yield by applying recent feeds research results. These studies recommend optimizing the mainly carbohydrate feeds by utilizing specific ?bioactive? and enzymic treatments, including :

Bacterial fermentation of beans, seeds and cereals (to break down protective anti - enzymic agents in the beans etc) and to part convert starches to sugars in controlled temperature and duration conditions. And:

Specific enzymic hydrolysis treatments, of cereal based feeds, using amylases on the starches to release sugars (for higher available feed energy content), and in protein feeds (e.g. fish meals for cattle), to pre - digest proteins into amino acids and peptides, using proteases.? This principle has been proven great for top producing carp baits too!

The commercial pellet type ?mature - carp diet formulas? often consist of:

25 % to 45 % protein, averaging 38 % of the ?dry? mix.

Analysis shows a mixture of protein and carbohydrate sources, that forms a specific ratio, with protein contents of around 25 % to 65 % for different stages of carp production.

The ?GROWTH FEEDS? appear to have a higher protein content, e.g. 40 % to 58 %, and most utilize fish or crustacean (shellfish) meal; high in proteins and essential fatty acids (fats).

I notice that in fishing bait terms, we now have ingredients in predigested extract form that can provide up to 96 % digestible protein content!
(E.g., predigested milk proteins, shellfish and fish proteins.)

The carbohydrate content is in fact extremely important; it not only provides energy, but in the correct ratio with Protein and fat, actually MAXIMIZES protein use in the body for growth and repair, avoiding any loss due it being ?catabolized? to generate energy.

Foods like soya meal, maize meal or semolina are high carbohydrate sources, but are low in amino acids. Carbohydrate foods are poor sources of protein, and require protein supplementation.

A carbohydrate food may only be 7 % protein for example, as in the case of maize flour, (6 % to 11 % averages) or wheat semolina, (A 6 % to 14 % average). The fishes body tends to ?deaminate? these low protein foods, and the amino acids obtained are put to uses other than growth or tissue repair; and especially to energy production.

This makes the logical case for you to base your nutritional carp bait upon protein sources of food (like fish or shellfish, or milk derivatives and extracts), and not carbohydrate sources (like wheat or maize.) Perhaps now, designing and making a so ? called High Nutritional Value ('HNV'), boilies as complete carp baits makes more sense!

Acarp bait does not necessarily need to be designed in this way to produce big carp, but it is the understanding of all this that is the power behind really successful bait making.

The addition of any ingredients that stimulate carp in healthy ways is beneficial, and the addition of betaine as an stimulant a bit like caffeine has been shown along with amino acids, to be a great 'protein feeding response' trigger and activity stimulator.

The author has many more fishing and bait ?edges? up his sleeve. Every single one can have a huge impact on catches. (Warning: This article is protected by copyright.)
